Interior and exterior decor made from trees

Having a home is a necessity that we all have as humans especially going into adulthood. We all want a beautiful home that is spiffed up to our personal desire. To get this desire, interior decor made from trees can completely help. Wooden products and features inside our homes make for an eye-catching positive appeal that brings some natural beauty of the outside in. Every tree has its own physical characteristics especially after getting milled up or sanded, then stained which then just makes the wood grain visualization pop.

Our entire homes are built from trees

When it comes to specific features in a home where trees are needed the list is endless. Our homes are created from trees from the foundation up. This starts from the framing/ timber framing the walls, the Joyces, the rafters, to the plywood on the roof. Many of our homes, garages and barns are sided with specific wood species too. My favorite type of siding is cedar shake both (Cedrus spp., & Chamaecyparis spp.) due to its aesthetic characteristics. It contains natural anti-rot, anti-warp, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agents. It also contains the cedar smell that make it insect resistant. A really cool place to go on vacation to the beach in the summer is Cape Cod Massachusetts, where the theme there is all natural cedar siding on mostly every house that is bleached from the sun.

Different tree species are used at every step in the building of our homes. The trees used for framing our homes are either Fir (Abies spp.), Spruce (Picea spp.). Pine (Pinus spp.), Larch (Laracina spp.) or Hemlock (Tsuga eastern or western spp.).

Beside cedar shake siding, the next on the list that I like the best is board and batten. Board and batten uses a variety of softwood conifers such as Larch (Tamarack) Larix laricina, Pines (Pinus spp.) Hemlock (Tsuga spp.), Fir (Abies spp.), or Spruce Picea spp., that are milled into 6 to 12 inch wide 1 inch boards with a half inch space in between the boards for expansion and contraction. Then a 3 in batten gets nailed over the space for a finished look.

Epoxy resin river tables and artwork made with wood

When you combine 2 substances together including a polymer and a hardener you get epoxy. The mixture of these substances goes through a chemical reaction that creates heat that solidifies within a few hours. This epoxy resin gets colors from acrylic paint, mica powder, makeup (such as eyeshadow) resin tint and glitter in a 5 to 6 % color to resin ratio. When color isĀ used in river tables it makes beautiful artwork that transitions the table to look like a river or a lake is flowing through the center or edge. The use of epoxy resin gives a glossy texture for a finish that lasts a long time. The best overall product to use when making these tables is PRO MARINE table-top epoxy with the harder.

Hardwood floors in our homes

To me the best flooring to put in our homes are hardwoods such as Red Oak (Quercus Rubra), White Oak (Quarcus alba), Black Walnut (Juglans nigra), Hickory (Caraya spp.), Black Cherry (Prunus serotina), or Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) because they have very hard wood grain characteristics that will last a long time, yet they are impact resistant plus they shine up to look gorgeous.

Custom Hardwood cabinets

When it comes to cabinets in our homes the tree species that I like the best are made from Shagbark Hickory (Carya ovata), Bitternut Hickory (Carya cordiformis), Pignut Hickory (Carya glabra), Mockernut Hickory (Carya tomentosa) Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) or Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) although i really like the look of light whitish color cabinets with some dark knots in the mix. What goes extremely well with light colored hardwood cabinets such as these are dark Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) counter tops, granite or marble.

Other Interior features made from hardwood tree species

Great features of the house that all of us have is a kitchen table. If you incorporate any epoxy resin hardwood table it will enhance the aesthetic appeal of that room fully. What looks great in our living rooms is an epoxy resin hardwood coffee table along with end tables. Another hardwood feature that I added to the living from is a custom entertainment center/ book shelf that is made out of 1 1/4 black pipe with Black Walnut slabs (Jugalns nigra) on top.

Creating a custom hardwood bed frame with dressers is yet another great aesthetic allure that can be built or bought to spice up the inside of our bedrooms. The species that I prefer for a bed frame is either Black Walnut, Hickory spp., Black Cherry or Sugar Maple.

Most every house has shelves but whether or not they are made out of hardwoods or softwoods is up to whatever someone likes or suits there personal preference. To me I like either Black Walnut or Sugar Maple shelves or a mixture of both to enhance the dark and light wood tones throughout the house,

Custom bathroom vanities made from hardwoods

For the bathrooms I have created custom hardwood double vanity sinks and faucets from both Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) cookies or (also horizontally cut 2 inch slabs of a full tree trunk), plus Black Walnut (Juglans nigra). One vanity is screwed to the wall while hanging from chains fastened to the wall while open underneath. The other is placed on a vanity base with drawers. They both have these two individual tree species themes all throughout with the trim and tile work.

Interior and exterior hardwood or softwood doors

Whether you use hardwood doors throughout your house or softwood doors or for me an even mix of both you will not be disappointed. They all look beautiful with each species that is used having its own colorful charm. Some exterior doors have a vinyl exterior wrap to what ever color you chose so that they are protected from the elements while the inside is made of what ever wood you prefer or the manufacturer decides to use.

Conclusion

Our homes are made out of a variety of tree species from the foundation up. Each tree species has its own charisma that gets used in any specific project throughout our homes. Interior decor with both hardwood and softwood tree species make for a captivating aesthetic charm that makes our home worth more money in the long run; plus it is made from high quality material that can last a lifetime and beyond.
